2026 Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada awards

The Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) funds visionaries, explorers and innovators who are searching for the scientific and technical breakthroughs that will benefit our country. This is Canada’s largest supporter of discovery and innovation. Recently, NSERC announced a $630 million investment in discovery research, and CHRIM is proud that our investigators have received over $345,000 of that amount.

The following researchers received funding for their projects:

Dr. Prashen Chelikani. – Taste modulators: Characterizing the mechanisms of bitter taste blockers and their effects on sweet and umami tastes ($78,000, five years)

Dr. Kangmin Duan: Regulatory mechanisms governing secretion system-mediated interspecies interaction in pseudomonas aeruginosa ($48,000, five years)

Dr. Eric HallMolecular insights into cytoneme-driven intercellular communication ($42,000, five years)

Dr. Benjamin Lindsey: Niche vasculature as a regulator of teleost adult neurogenesis ($39,000, five years)

Dr. Neeloffer Mookherjee– Cationic Host Defence Peptides: Immunomodulatory functions and mechanisms ($65,000, five years)

Dr. Mahmoud Torabi– Advanced statistical frameworks for correlated data in complex natural systems ($34,000, five years)

Dr. Cedric Tremblay– Investigating the interplay between transcription factors and microenvironmental signals that shape immune T-cell development ($42,000, five years)

Congratulations to all recipients, including many co-applicants on additional projects not listed.
