Leah Crockett, PhD candidate with supervision from CHRIM CEO and Scientific Director, Dr. Terry Klassen, has been awarded the prestigious Banting Fellowship, which aims to support the very best postdoctoral researchers, both nationally and internationally, who will positively contribute to the country’s economic, social, and research-based growth.

Her fellowship is for $140,000 over two years that seeks to implement and test an intervention that aims to improve the readiness of emergency departments across Manitoba. Her work will include working with community stakeholders to tackle current gaps and better equip facilities with the knowledge, tools, and skills they need to ensure the best outcomes for acutely ill and injured children in our province.
“As someone who grew up in Northern Manitoba, and also a new mom, the focus on rural pediatric healthcare is near and dear to my heart. There’s a lot of excellent research being done, but it’s not always translated into practice.

Dr. Klassen congratulates Leah on her tremendous achievement. “I’m thrilled to see Leah recognized for the great work she is doing. It’s also amazing to see that another CHRIM scholar has been recognized at this prestigious level.”
Leah Crockett is now the third Banting Fellow at CHRIM, with Dr. Chris Pascoe being awarded a Banting in 2017, along with Dr. Meghan Azad, awarded at the University of Alberta in 2013.
