Celebrating the past 20 years of Child Health Research Days

The 20th Annual Child Health Research Days (CHRD) took place this October, welcoming nearly 300 attendees to celebrate this milestone event.

This year’s CHRD conference celebrated the rich history of child health research at the Children’s Hospital Research Institute of Manitoba (CHRIM), and included presentations on a variety of health topics including psychosocial determinants of kidney disease involving the iCARE study, early life origins of chronic disease including asthma and allergy, and how early child childhood oral health research has evolved over time.

Some highlights on this year’s conference included our ever popular Dr. Goodbear’s Den competition, which featured five trainee finalists who presented their work to a panel of judges. CHRD delegates were also able to enjoy the trainee poster session that featured 124 posters – the highest number of posters we’ve ever had on display! In light of our 20th anniversary, we were also pleased to bring back several CHRIM alumni trainees to reconnect with previous colleague’s and mentors, and establish new connections.

Dr. Goodbear’s Den participants:

Gauri Bhardwaj, Emily Brownell, Gandhrav Goel, Parth Saul, Alexandria Martin

The Award’s Dinner was the perfect ending to close this year’s conference. We were pleased to welcome two keynote speakers, Dr. Kelly Russell, who shared her story of why she came (and stayed) in Winnipeg, as well as 11-year-old Simon the Scientist, who dazzled the crowd with his engaging presentation.

Thank you to everyone who presented, participated, organized or attended this years Child Health Research Days and we can’t wait to welcome you again in future years!
