“Complex Dermatology in Remote and Northern Saskatchewan’s First Nations Pediatric
1) To raise awareness of and to examine the complex, poorly documented chronic
pediatric skin conditions leading to significant morbidity and health care
expenditure cost in northern and remote Saskatchewan First Nations communities.
2) To examine relevant barriers to health care in remote First Nations communities
from a social-historical lens, including a discussion on environment and
determinants of health. Specific cases will be reviewed with examples.
3) To discuss initiatives that are gaining some traction in Saskatchewan with
Dermatology outreach clinics, and to propose possible solutions to barriers that
are being explored with some success to date.
